In a new announcement made by Pico, the VR hardware developer company, has said that it will be launching one of its headsets in the European market. What you may know as the Pico Neo 3, a standalone VR headset, is being launched in Europe as the Pico Neo 3 Link.
As we previously posted, Pico held an event in France recently, the Laval Virtual Event. It announced that the Neo 3 Link will be initially shipped to Germany, Spain, Netherlands and France in May. The headset will cost about £449 and will be available in “limited” amounts. The Neo 3 Link will cost a little less in Italy and the UK, where it gets released the following month, at £349 per unit.
We believe that the reason why Pico is launching this headset in restricted quantities is because the company wants to test the European waters first. Since this is supposed to be a new market for the VR developer company, they have described this launch as the “beta program” – for which users can pre-order their headsets on April 15th, 2022. Product shipping will start on the 24th of May and Pico will be gathering information from the target audience regarding services and updates about the “Pico Store, Pico user accounts, payment, social” and other utilities provided. A few more surprises were also given to the livestream audience, by the Pico Europe General Manager, which you can have a look here.
Pico’s VR headsets feature Fresnel lenses, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2. They also have Inside-Out 6DoF tracking with two 6DoF motion controllers. Meta’s Quest 2 VR headset also features similar specifications, but Pico has announced a very unique feature regarding its wired PC VR connection, that you can read about here. The headset also supports wireless connection to PCs, for users to be able to play SteamVR titles with this product.
The Pico Neo 3 Link has about 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It’s refresh rate goes up to an impressive 90 Hz and also features a resolution worth 3664×1920 pixels. Having been recently acquired by Chinese multinational company, ByteDance Ltd, it seems the company is keen on making significant progress in launching its’ enterprise headsets in global markets. So far, it is exciting to know that Meta’s Quest 2 is going to have some good competition in the VR industry, but it is far too soon to tell how it fares overall.
